We just got back from a fantastic week at Pebble Beach. The weather was great, and the golf even better. I'll post some candids in a day or so as I sort through the photos. But for now... here are the official tournament results as well as photos of our overall team winners in both Net and Gross. Congratulations!

Father’s Day- A Special Time Spent Together

Father’s Day is right around the corner…and while it’s too late to attend our event this July at Pebble Beach, you can still sign up for the Cleveland Father/Son event in December. It’s a unique opportunity to play Pebble Beach and the surrounding courses located along the Monterrey Bay. Wouldn’t you like some quality time playing golf with your Father, Son or Daughter? I told Dick it would truly be my pleasure to write about the Father Son tournament at Pebble Beach. I said this because it is always one of the best times I have playing golf. To get to spend four days with my son playing golf in one of the best places in the world is truly a joy to me. The friends Gentry and I have made and the memories we have are extra special because we share them. We have played in the World Pro-AM Father/Son event 17 times. As time goes on, the chance to be together is limited because each person is busy. We have a very large family so individual time is limited. This event allows us to catch up on each others lives. We both looked forward all year long to spending time together at Pebble. Each year has been very special, though the year we won our flight gave us both a great feeling of accomplishment. Just the competition alone is enough to bring us back so many times. Father/ Daughter Team Makes Memories

Team Net Champions Father/Daughter division, Kalyn and Bill Dodge from Irvine, California.

For the past six years Bill Dodge and his daughter Kalyn have participated in the Father/Daughter division of our golf tournament event at Pebble Beach. We had a chance to catch up with this team recently and found out why this tournament has been so special.

Dick Farley (DF): What made you choose this Father/Daughter event?

Bill: After Kalyn's second year in competitive golf, and having played a couple of scrambles we seemed to team up well. I wanted to play more golf with her at a competitive level and (wanted to play) some place special to reward her for all of her hard work. Your tournament was the perfect combination of all of the things I was looking for: 1) time with Kalyn, 2) Competition and 3) playing somewhere special like Pebble Beach.

Kalyn: For me, I wanted to play a tournament with my dad and the thought of playing Pebble (Beach) was hard to resist.

DF: What has this tournament meant to both of you?

Bill: It has meant more time together just having fun, laughing and talking. Making memories that will last a life time... We were already very close to begin with, this has brought us closer and given us something that we can do together for a very long time.... I can't imagine ever missing the Father/Daughter event.

Kalyn: It has meant so much to spend time with my dad.

DF: How important was the time spent together?

Bill: Since we have been coming for 6 years, the time spent has become more important as she has gotten older. Now that she is away at school during the year, and with short breaks and many friends to see when she comes home, this is the only true Father/Daughter (time) with no outside distractions that we have other than golf practice sessions. We have created so many memories that will last us a life time playing at the Father/Daughter tournament. We laugh, we grumble, we fight, we talk trash but most of all we have an absolute blast doing something we both love and will cherish forever. Thank you for keeping this tournament running, it has become an integral part of our lives.

Kalyn: The time we spent together has been unimaginable, irreplaceable, unforgettable. So many good times to count, (it's been) the best golf of my life.

Our Father/Son golf tournaments are a favorite of many of our contestants. It’s a chance to spend quality time together, playing one of the games you both love… Golf.

This summer Cleveland Golf is sponsoring a great Father/Son event at Pebble Beach. The dates are July 2nd through July 6th, 2009. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take your son or daughter to Pebble Beach and play The Pebble Beach Golf Links (site of the 2010 U.S. Open) in a tournament format. In addition all of the contestants will be staying at The Lodge at Pebble Beach. The price is far below the normal price to stay and play 3 rounds of golf.

Course Changes at Pebble Beach

Looks like Pebble Beach Golf Links are in for some major changes. Brian Hewitt from The Golf Channel writes the following:

On the sixth hole of the second round of the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Tiger Woods famously and impossibly hoisted a 7-iron from a nasty lie in the deep right kikuyu rough to an uphill green from 202 yards. The ball stopped less than 15 feet away.
Just like that, golf history and Tiger Woods lore had yet another snapshot framed inside the natural beauty of the Monterey Peninsula. “This is not a fair fight,” said an astonished Roger Maltbie from the booth on NBC’s live broadcast. It was a shot that makes all the Top 10 Tiger Woods lists. And it is a shot we will never see again.
The good folks who run what is arguably America’s most famous golf course have altered the hole. Significantly.
Moreover, they are in the process of changing the entire golf course. Significantly.

Pebble Beach 38th World Pro-Am – Winners and Awards

We had a fantastic week at Pebble Beach with a truly great tournament! Thursday evening was our Awards Ceremony and Banquet. The dinner was delicious and the atmosphere jovial.

Heading into the final round it was a close race. Here are the champions in each category. Congratulations to our winners and all the teams who came to play!

Pebble Beach 38th World Pro-Am- Final Round

Heading into the final round to be played at The Links at Spanish Bay, the tournament was extremely close in all the categories. The leader board looked like this prior to the start of the fourth and final round.

Team Gross: Aeropines Golf Club was leading with a 212, and the International Country Club was one shot back with a 213. Two shots back, two teams were tied at 214, Nashville Golf and Athletic Club and Ridgewood Country Club.

In Team Net: Nashville Golf and Athletic Club led with a 193, and two shots back was Ridgewood Country Club with a score of 195.

Finally leading the Stableford Professional Championship after three rounds was Roy Vucinich at 48 points followed closely by James William Jr. with 46 points.

The tournament was anyone’s to win this final round at Spanish Bay.

Pebble Beach 38th World Pro-Am - Day Three

Day three of the tournament and contestants were slated to play the Pebble Beach Golf Links. This course is tough, it’s no wonder it’s hosted the US Open three times and will host it again next year in 2010. Hole numbers 8, 9 and 10 are a tough stretch of holes, because of the rugged coastlines and sloping greens. Of course holes 17 and 18 are just as tough…. Many a game has been lost (or won) on the way up the 18th.

Our players were anxious to try their skill on these legendary links. Here are a few photos taken of the day.

Pebble Beach 38th World Pro-Am- Day 2 Spyglass Hill

Our second tournament day was played at Spyglass Hill Golf Course. Spyglass Hill, designed by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr, is ranked #11 in the top 100 courses by Golf Digest. Hole numbers 6-8 and 16 are rated the most difficult. Accurate tee shots are a must on this difficult course!

Today we had a professional photographer on the first tee taking photos of all the teams. You can tell by the photo below it’s a beautiful scenic background.

Pebble Beach 38th World Pro-Am- Bayonet Course

Day One of our tournament started out with light showers, but 45 minutes into play, the skies cleared up to reveal a beautiful sunny day. The first round of the tournament was played at The Bayonet Course, Seaside California. The course is tree lined and overlooking the Monterey Bay. It opened its second nine in February of this year and it’s spectacular. Players had to watch out for back to back tough holes, the eighth, 613yards, par 5, and the ninth, 476 yards, par 4, which proved to be the the two most difficult holes.

Pebble Beach 38th World Pro-Am – Check In

The first day of our tournament week typically involves arrival and check in at the Hotel. This is the entrance to the Lodge at Pebble Beach. What stately architecture..... and that’s just the entrance.

Most contestants checked in at the lobby upon arrival, then wandered the grounds or grabbed a quick bite to eat in the Tap Room.

We had two teams that literally drove up to the Lodge, parked and pulled out their shoes and clubs in order to make their tee time. Just a quick nine holes before the tournament the next day!

Later in the day we met with all the pros to go over the tournament rules etc, and then that same evening we hosted a meet and greet cocktail party. The hors d’oeuvres were delicious and included some of the following: Nigiri Sushi & California Rolls with Soy Sauce, Wasabi & Pickled Ginger, Beef Satay with Peanut Sauce, Beef Brochette Teriyaki Style, Mini Dungeness Crab Cake with Roasted Red Pepper Remoulade, Andouille Fried Artichokes with Lemon Mayonaise plus a Carving Station of Truffle Marinated Whole Roasted Filet of Beef with Mushroom Stew. Everyone enjoyed the food and had a terrific time. What a great prelude to the start of the tournament!

Preparing for Pebble

We’ve been busy preparing for our upcoming World Pro-Ams tournament at Pebble Beach on February 22nd- 26th. There is always lots to do the week before we leave… We’ve been in touch with the folks at Pebble Beach making sure everything is prepared for our arrival.

For those of you who are staying at The Lodge at Pebble Beach for the first time, you are in for a treat! The hotel is simply beautiful. The architecture is elegant, the service exceptional, and the views gorgeous! It’s one of those places that you won’t soon forget, and you’ll want to go back and visit again and again. While The Lodge at Pebble Beach displays a stately beauty, it’s golf courses also boast of excellence. Built in 1919 the course sits right next to the Pacific coastline, and provides magnificent views. What a rich history has been lived out on those links! If only they could speak what a story they would have to tell! Four US Open Championships have been played there, not to mention the numerous Crosby events (now known as the AT&T Pro-Am. Who We Are

Most people who visit our blog or website may already be familiar with the name World Pro-Ams. Maybe you’ve attended one of our past tournaments or you are signed up to attend one this coming year. For some however, this may be the first time you’ve heard our name.

World Pro-Ams began with one golf tournament held at the Pebble Beach Golf Resort complex in 1971. Our vision was to have one club professional and three of his amateur members compete against other teams at one of the finest golf destinations in the world. Back in that first tournament we had just three teams competing at Pebble Beach, but the idea caught on. Our second year the tournament grew to 36 teams and was sponsored by Etonic. The following year 45 teams came to the event, and the next year 50 teams. The tournament became so large that we added a second event at Pebble Beach to accommodate everyone who wanted to play.

With the success at Pebble Beach, we decided to take that same format abroad to both Scotland and Ireland. Our contestants have played such world renowned courses as the Championship Links at Ballybunion, Ireland and the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. World Pro-Ams has also hosted tournaments in Portugal, Spain, Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Los Cabos, Mexico. Our locations in the States have included Palm Springs,CA, Pinehurst, NC, Whistling Straits,WI and Orange Lake, Orlando,FL.

We currently provide tournaments for Golf Professionals and three of their amateur members, as well as our popular Father/Son events. PGA Merchandise Show - Orlando, Florida January 2009

The PGA Merchandise show is a colossal event! Each year thousands of the world's most avid golf professionals and golf enthusiasts show up in Orlando, Florida to immerse themselves in all things golf. It's the game we all love (and some love to hate). At the merchandise show you have your pick of golf venues to fill your itinerary. With well over 1000 exhibitor booths, there's a lot to see! Choices range from new product demos, golf fashion, innovative golf industry business seminars, golf instruction, and tons more.... There are even booths representing golf tournament events...... which is our little corner of the world.

Each year for the past 20 years we've had our exhibitor booth at the show, and this year was no exception. It was great to see so many familiar faces drop by over the course of the weekend. We look forward to this event every year.....It's always a fantastic time to see old friends and meet new people.
